Where should I stay?
We recommend staying at the Inishowen Gateway Hotel during the wedding weekend. Airbnb’s are not very plentiful so those may go fast. Other places to stay near our venue include The Lake of Shadows Hotel, Lisadell B&B., and the Harbour Inn. See our Accommodations & Travel page for even more ancommodations options. Buncrana is a summer tourist destination for surrounding areas and rooms tend to book up fast, so we recommend booking as early as possible. We have events Friday evening through Sunday evening that we would love for you to attend!

I'm coming from the US. Which airport should I fly into?
We recommend Dublin! Dublin airport seems to have the most direct flights from the US and there are plenty of rental car and bus options to get to Bucrana from there. That said, Belfast is a bit closer to Buncrana, so a great option as well. However, it usually will involve a connecting flight through London so your flight time will likely be longer. There are trains/buses that go from Belfast to Derry. Buncrana is a short distance from Derry. For more detailed directions, see our Accommodations & Travel page.
-
Should I rent a car?
The Inishowen Gateway Hotel is walkable to most things in Buncrana. That said, there is no Uber/ride sharing in Buncrana and wait times for taxis can vary. Public transportation is easy in major cities like Derry, Belfast, and Dublin. If you plan to take trips outside of Buncrana proper, or outside of major cities, such as Derry, Belfast, or Dublin, we recommend renting a car.

How long should I stay in Buncrana?
We have planned events Friday evening through Sunday evening and we’d love for you to attend all of them! Conor and Sarah will be in Buncrana the week after the wedding, so you are welcome to stick around. We’ll keep you as long as we can, but we also want you to take advantage of the beautiful place that is Ireland. So please feel free to plan you own vacation :)

What currency is used? Should I take out cash?
Ireland uses the euro. Northern Ireland uses the pound (Note: Derry accepts both euros and pounds. However, if spending time in Belfast, Belfast does not accept euros.)
Most vendors, bars, and restaurants accept standard credit, debit cards, and Apple Pay. There are a few options for currency transfers and a lot of this will depend on your bank account and card details so we’d recommend you check with your bank on associated fees (if any) for using your cards abroad, withdrawing money, etc.
That said, it’s a good idea to have some cash on hand. Here are some ways to take out cash:
At the airport: you can get hard cash currency conversion at Dublin and Belfast airports. This is usually a bit more expensive and we wouldn’t recommend taking out cash for your entire trip at the airports because they often charge extra fees and rates, but this is a great option so that you have some cash on hand when you arrive.
ATM withdrawal: There are two ATMs in Buncrana, so another option is to take out a few withdrawals during your stay to limit those ATM/Bank/Conversion fees. You can visit the Bank of Ireland Lower Main Street Buncrana or AIB Bank Market Street Buncrana.

Do I need a passport?
If you’re traveling from outside of Ireland, yes you need a passport! Please take a second to look at your passport and make sure that it does not expire prior to your trip. See instructions for how to get a new passport / renew your passport here. If you need to renew your passport, we recommend prioritizing as soon as you can. Reach out to Conor & Sarah with any questions!
